VOR - Volvo Ocean Race 2008 from Alicante
Alicante has seen since the most reputable sailors to confront the Volvo Ocean Race, the race back to the world par excellence.
Alicante hosted in October 2008 the start of the Volvo Ocean Race, the most prestigious race back to the world of sailing. The first stage went from Alicante on October 11, 2008, but since October 4 races were held prior In port race off the coast of Alicante.
The tenth edition 2008-2009 of this race around the world by scales, in which only the best surfers dare to live in extreme conditions, left for the first time since the Mediterranean. Alicante was the host of the most important stage of the race along with the arrival in St. Petersburg. China, Saudi Arabia, Ireland and Russia were included for the first time on the route which stops in 11 countries.
For this trip the Generalitat ability Village Alicante 2008-2009, a facility open to the public of 40,000 sq meters in the port city that opened its doors on September 19 and that until Oct. 11 offered to citizens and visitors a program intense and exciting events and activities for all ages and audiences.
Alicante, during those days was the global center of the sail, the media nationally and internationally and the best sailors in the world.
